Dear Fellow Alaskan,
Will you join my Alaska Advisory Council? Alaska is at a crossroads and we are all stakeholders in our state's future. Your thoughts and ideas are important to me.
I fell in love with Alaska and its way of life when I first came here thirty-six years ago. Just after high school, my grandmother was moving to Ketchikan and I tagged along to catch some fish. I became a volunteer intern for Governor Wally Hickel. He became my mentor, business partner and, most importantly, friend. Before he passed away last month, Governor Hickel encouraged me to return to public service. That was a major factor in my decision to run for the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor.
I am a widowed parent after losing my wife Carol to cancer eight years ago. I've faced all the challenges and great rewards of raising three wonderful kids - Tim, Will, and Natalie. Actually, they have raised me well. I'm running because I want all of our kids to have the same opportunities in Alaska that I've had.
I've worked as an investigative reporter for the old ANCHORAGE TIMES, helped start the all Alaska gas pipeline project, then branched out and founded high technology companies that compete now, successfully, in world markets.
Four times I've been asked to serve in government, and I've always said "Yes." As director of spill response for the City of Cordova during the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill cleanup, as Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Conservation in Governor Hickel's second administration, as a director of the Alaska Science and Technology Foundation, and as a member and chair of the United States Arctic Research Commission, I've developed policies that have strengthened our economy and helped protect Alaska.
Every time, I've fought to have Washington deal with Alaska's issues on Alaska's terms.
Today, I am shocked and saddened by the way the federal government is ignoring Constitutional limits, trashing our Statehood Compact, bulldozing our individual rights and taking over legitimate businesses. You can count on me to stand up for Alaska's rights to develop our natural resources and manage our fish and game.
I am for filling our oil pipeline, building the gas pipeline, and for increasing exports around the world. I am for learning, for lower taxes, for limited government and I am for life.
What do you think?
Alaskans have shared their ideas with me as I've campaigned around the state. I hope that you will join them by answering the questionnaire below. I would be honored to have you join my Alaska Advisory Council.
Respectfully,

Mead Treadwell
